December 2009 – Newsletter

From the Desk of the Worthy Grand Matron:

Christmas is the season of good will, love and sharing.  Eastern Stars have been exemplifying these traits every day of their lives throughout our history.  Please remember our shut-ins and those in the nursing homes and shower holiday cheer on them.  George and I send all of you warm wishes for the holidays.

Elections will be taking place at the first meeting in December. Therefore, this means a new corps of officers, a new year, and a new beginning.    The selection of these officers will be reflected in the prosperity and well being of our chapters.  We should always seek the guidance of our heavenly Father through prayer as we elect those who will lead our individual chapters.

Sixty-six Louisiana members attended General Grand Chapter in Tulsa.  Sister Linda Lamkin, PGM, deserves a big thank you for planning a most successful breakfast honoring Brother Harles I. Creech, PMWGP, and the General Grand Chapter Committee Members.  Also, Sister Joy Beth Williams, GC, and Brother Charles McDaniel, PP, deserve many thanks for reserving seats for the Louisiana members.  Sister Jane McDaniel, PGM, did an outstanding job as General Grand Chapter Choir Director.  Congratulations to all of these members for a job well done.

Congratulations, and welcome home, to Elizabeth Roach, Worthy Grand Electa, and those who will be serving as General Grand Chapter Committee Members - J. R. Denny, Shriners Charties; Anita Fields-Gold, International Headquarters; Eldon Howell, Membership and Edward Lamkin, Chapter Restoration.

Reminder:  All project reports need to be sent to the District Chairman and the State Chairman.  These need to be in the hands of the State Chairman by December 31, 2009.

The Enhancing Our Knowledge Workshop held in Natchitoches on November 14, 2009, was a tremendous success.  The Law and Jurisprudence and Work and Ritual Committees are to be commended for the manner in which they presented the information.  Members contributed by asking additional questions.  Natchitoches Chapter No. 13 and Sister Jean Jordan, PGM, deserves a big thank you for preparing and serving eighty-eight of us.

At Christmas time our hearts reach out

To friends we think of clearly

And checking through our friendship lists,

As all of us do yearly,

And though we’ve been too busy

To keep in touch all year.

We send this season of good cheer.

So Christmas is a lovely link

Between old years and new

That keeps the bond of friendship forever unbroken and true.

May the true spirit of this Christmas Season

…Its joys, its beauty, and above all…

Its abiding faith, live among us…

Bringing to all the blessing of peace…

The peace to build and to grow…

The peace to live in harmony and sympathy with others.

George and I wish you a Merry Christmas

Words to the Wise:  Four things that cannot be recovered:  The stone…..after the throw;  The word.....after it is said; The occasion…..after it is missed; The time…..after it is gone.

                                                                                            Fraternally,

                                                                                            Mary Howell

APPRECIATION

Through the courtesy of Sister Mary Howell, WGM, I send my thanks and appreciation for the Love Gift from Louisiana Members presented to me at the Louisiana Breakfast at General Grand Chapter.  Thanks for the concern of many who called during my eye surgery.  My love to each of you.  Harles I. Creech, PMWGP.

It is with deep appreciation that we thank the members of Louisiana Grand Chapter for the courtesies extended to each of us over the last three years.  Thank you for your generous love gift and your support at General Grand Chapter with your presence or your thoughts and prayers.  We will always fondly remember this once in a lifetime experience.  Jane McDaniel, PGM;  Audrey Barker, PGM;  Jean Smith, PGM;  James Premeaux, PGP,  and Gwayne Denham, PGP.

It was a thrill to represent Louisiana over the past three years as Choir Director of General Grand Chapter.  Thank you for the generous love gift and your support.  The choir was phenomenal, and Louisiana was well represented with 12 choir members. I shall never forget this fabulous experience.   Fraternally, Jane McDaniel, PGM

Through the courtesy of the Worthy Grand Matron, I would like to thank everyone for their cards and phone calls during Mattie Belle's long illness and death.  Wayne Barnhill, PGP

Thank you Sister Mary Howell, Worthy Grand Matron, for allowing me to send my sincere thanks to everyone for so many of your prayers, calls, cards, and visits during my recent surgery. I am going to need both chemo and radiation but the doctors are very optimistic about that. Please continue to remember me in your prayers. I know with God’s help, and your prayers, things are going to be fine. I will always treasure my Eastern Star Sisters and Brothers. Thank you, Myra Ramsey, AGM.
