September 2011  Newsletter

From the Desk of the Worthy Grand Matron:

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

September brings the last of the Official Visits.  This makes some of our Sisters and Brothers happy to be off the highway and others very sad that we will not be seeing each other as often.

Labor Day is September 5th.  This is a federal holiday that is always observed on the first Monday of September and a state holiday that is celebrated in all states.

September 11th is Grandparent's Day.  It is always the first Sunday after Labor Day.  The proclamation of National Grandparent's Day was signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978.  September was chosen for the holiday to signify the "autumn years" of life.

Brother Oscar and I had the honor of bringing greetings at "The Winter Wonderland" Session of the Amaranth Grand Court of Louisiana in New Orleans.  It was a pleasure to represent the Order of the Eastern Star and to be with our many Sisters and Brothers who are members of Amaranth.

Thank you, Louisiana Past Grands, Grand Officers, and members, for attending the 129th Grand Chapter of Texas in Houston.  There were forty-two present representing Louisiana.  We had a most enjoyable time visiting with our counterparts and our many Sisters and Brothers from other states.

The Louisiana/Mississippi Friendship Exchange in Ferriday chaired by Sister Joye Denny was wonderful.  Thank you Sister Joye, and your committee, for your hard work in putting this together.  Everyone enjoyed the decorations, the fellowship, the delicious meal, the entertainment, and some could not wait to share/exchange tea cups.  I think one Sister could not part with the tea cup she brought and carried it back home.

Get your passport and make reservations soon for the Holy Land!

Continue to pray for our OES members, our military, and our government.

"In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths."  Proverbs 3:6 (KJ)

Fraternally with love,

Joy Beth Williams

APPRECIATION:

The mere words “thank you” do not feel adequate enough for all of the phone calls, food,   flowers, cards, support and prayers that you extended to us during our time of loss.  The attendance of our Eastern Star sisters and brothers at the funeral of our daughter, Janie, was so incredibly overwhelming.   We could never express the depth of our gratitude for each and every one of you.  Your kindness is greatly appreciated.  Please keep praying for our family as we continue to heal from our grief.

Sincerely and much love, Eldon and Mary Howell
